Tena Koe, Having recently moved into the Selwyn District looking for a new adventure in our lives we are very pleased to be owning and managing Ako Rolleston and being part of such a connected community. I have been an Early Childhood kaiako for a number of years now and enjoyed many roles throughout this time, my passion is providing an environment for children where they can succeed and lead their learning journey at their pace, observing what makes them spark and providing opportunities for them to go where ever they choose.

Andrew has been a truck driver for a many years now and has been on the early childhood journey alongside myself over the years. So it makes sense that together we are now providing an environment where tamariki have the best possible opportunities, learn and thrive, develop a passion for learning and are curious about the world around them.

We look forward to including your whanau in our whanau and together giving your child an amazing early childhood experience.

Originally from the UK, Claire moved to her adopted home, Aotearoa in 1998 with her family. She has been teaching for 17 years, first as a reliever and then she fell into a full time position here at Ako. Her reason at first for choosing to move to a full time position was the connection she had with the nursery children, but this soon expanded to the entire Ako whanau and the relationships and bonds she has formed. Everyday at Ako is a happy day for Claire and everyday her goal is to give the children a place of happiness.
If Claire isn’t in the nursery caring for our youngest tamariki, she is flying through the centre covering all of our breaks, and making sure all the background jobs like the washing and the tidying is under control. Claire’s an absolute superstar asset to our team!

Bachelor in Teaching ECE

Hi, I’m Jonathan. I have two children, Benjamin, 14, and Dain, 21. My family and I moved from Auckland to our current home in Rolleston about five years ago, and we’ve loved integrating into our new community.

As an early childhood teacher, I strive to create a warm, nurturing, and inclusive environment where each child feels valued and empowered. I’m a proponent of play-based learning, which lets  children explore and discover in a developmentally appropriate way. My approach involves hands-on, experiential activities, providing the resources and support needed for comprehensive development..

I also emphasize strong relationships with students, families, and the community, believing that collaboration and communication are key to every child’s success. My ultimate goal is to foster a lifelong love of learning in my students and empower them to become confident, capable learners ready to face the world’s challenges.

My name is Kara

I am a primary trained teacher and have been working in that area for the last 4 years, however, I am very excited to be making a shift to the early childhood sector.

I live in Coalgate (out between Glentunnel and Hororata), with my husband Blair and son Ben, who is part of the Nursery whanau.  I enjoy being outside in our large garden where I get to enjoy and am also fortunate enough to be able to grow/freeze and preserve most of our fruit and veggies for the year. In my spare time, I also enjoy making good use of the local walks and playing drums.

Shannon Clark

Bachelor of Health Sciences, Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Primary)

Shannon joined our team in November 2023.
Shannon became a teacher because she has always had a passion for working with and teaching children and over the years she has found herself in various roles involving young children. In her previous teaching role she worked with the 2-3 year age group but wanted to transition back to working with the under 2s as she did a lot of nannying for this age group during her years at university.
Shannon lives in Christchurch with her partner who runs a cafe in town and her step daughter who has just started primary school and soon they will be adding a new puppy into their lives for a bit of extra brightness and chaos! In Shannon’s spare time she loves a game of netball down at Action Indoor Stadium and spending time with close friends and family on the weekends.
Shannon’s favourite thing so far about Ako is how kind and welcoming everyone has been, showing how supportive they are of one another which is reflective in how happy and excited the children are every day!
We are so excited to see the new ideas and experience that Shannon brings with her, and while we have only had her for a short while, she has certainly made a great impact already.

Michelle is one of our relievers here at Ako and has been with us June 2023. Michelle enjoys working with children, and took this opportunity to get back into the workforce after being a stay at home mum to her 2 children. Michelle has been with her husband for 22 years! Michelle says: “My family comes first, and I love spending time together. I enjoy traveling and exploring new towns and cities. I like going camping and my guilty pleasure is to chill at home with good food, drink and company. My goal for my children is to teach them to be strong and independent but also humble and kind… hopefully I can pass these values on to some children at Ako”.
Michelle’s favourite things about working at Ako is having a purpose outside of her 4 walls and forming meaningful relationships with tamariki and other kaiako.
Michelle is a great asset to our team, you will always see her with a big smile on her face and getting involved and having fun with all tamariki.

For family obligations, Lochleen then moved back to South Africa for a while where she opened her own daycare which she ran for about 13 years.
Lochleens daughter decided to move to New Zealand in 2020, so her and her husband followed.
Lochleens favourite thing about working at Ako is working with an amazing group of people that made her feel right at home from the very first day.
